How to write Facebook captions that sell cars
The image stops the scroll. The caption gets the click. Here’s a simple, repeatable formula for dealership captions on Facebook, Instagram and Google Business Profile.
Most dealership captions read like a classified ad: year, make, model, price, call us. They’re accurate — and easy to scroll past. A caption that sells does three more things: it gives people a reason to stop, a reason to care, and an easy next step.

The five-part caption formula
- Hook. One short line that earns the next one: a question, a bold statement or a relatable moment. “Still scraping your windshield in the dark every morning?”
- The vehicle or offer. What it is, in plain language. “This 2022 crossover has heated seats, a heated steering wheel and remote start.” Only list features you’ve confirmed on that unit.
- The benefit. What it means for them. “Warm, clear and ready before you walk out the door.”
- Honest urgency. Why now, without inventing a deadline. “Well-equipped crossovers like this don’t sit long.”
- Next step and fine print. A link straight to the vehicle, a phone number, and the disclaimer that goes with any price or rate.

Write for each platform
- Facebook: 3–6 short lines with line breaks, 2–4 emojis at most, and the vehicle link at the end. Links are clickable here — use them.
- Instagram: Links in captions aren’t clickable, so keep the text short, mention where to find the vehicle, and finish with 8–12 relevant hashtags: local (#YourCity), brand and model, and shopping tags.
- Google Business Profile: Plain and helpful, no hashtags or emojis. Add the vehicle link to the post’s button where possible. More in Google Business Profile posts for car dealerships.
Rules that keep you out of trouble
- Never invent details. Don’t claim a feature, payment, rebate or deadline that isn’t confirmed.
- Keep the fine print with the price. If you mention a price, rate or payment, include the disclaimer right after it, word for word. See how to advertise payments, rates and leases.
- Only say “price drop” if it dropped. “Reduced” and “sale” claims should be true.
- Get permission before tagging or showing customers. See how to turn reviews into posts.
